Every launch we’ve covered this week has been a bigger number than the last. Race Face wants $576.99 for a crankset. Whyte’s aluminum bikes start at £2,199 and that’s the budget story of the month. So it’s a genuine relief to write about the Peaty’s Monarch, a saddle that launched August 13, 2026, costs $99.99 at the low end, and solves a problem that’s been quietly annoying trail riders for about a decade: rails that creak, then keep creaking, until you give up and buy a new saddle.
Peaty’s is calling it the first fully serviceable MTB saddle. That’s a bold claim in a category where “serviceable” usually means “you can swap the cover.” The Monarch means something more literal. Grab a 2mm and a 3mm Allen key, pull the nose cap and rail assembly apart, clean out whatever grit has worked its way into the rail-and-lug interface, re-grease it, and put it back together. No cutting foam, no replacing the whole unit because one contact point wore out.

The rail-to-shell interface on most saddles is a sealed-for-life joint. Grease goes in once, at the factory, and that’s it. Ride enough miles — mud, water crossings, pressure-washing your bike after every ride like you’re supposed to — and that grease migrates or washes out. What’s left is metal moving against plastic or carbon, dry, under your full body weight every pedal stroke. That’s the creak. It’s rarely a structural problem. It’s almost always a lubrication problem you can’t get to, because the saddle was never designed to come apart.
That’s the gap Peaty’s is aiming at. Not comfort, not weight, not a new foam compound nobody asked for — the actual failure mode that gets a perfectly good saddle thrown out.
According to Peaty’s product page and off-road.cc’s coverage of the launch, the Monarch’s rails and nose cap are designed to be removed without pulling the saddle off the bike. That matters more than it sounds — most home mechanics won’t bother servicing a part that requires unclamping and realigning a saddle afterward. Skip that step entirely and the barrier to actually doing the maintenance drops close to zero.
The rails themselves are replaceable too, not just re-greaseable. Bend one in a crash or wear it out after a few seasons, and Pinkbike reported you can swap the rail assembly rather than replace the whole saddle. That’s the part that actually changes the economics — a $99.99 saddle that lasts through two or three rail replacements is a different value proposition than a $99.99 saddle you throw out the first time something creaks or bends.
Servicing the Monarch takes a 2mm and a 3mm Allen key and doesn’t require removing the saddle from the seatpost. Here’s the process, per Peaty’s own instructions:
That’s a five-minute job with tools most riders already carry in a trail tool kit. Compare that to the usual saddle-creak troubleshooting routine — check the seatpost clamp, check the rail clamp, apply thread locker somewhere, give up, buy a new saddle — and it’s obvious why Peaty’s is leading its whole launch with this feature instead of burying it in a spec sheet.
The foam core is Peaty’s own compound, branded Throne Foam, running underneath a fully seamless, vacuum-sealed PU cover made with 24% recycled ocean plastics. There’s a 40mm pressure-relief channel down the center — the same basic idea as the channel on the Specialized Power Pro Mirror we covered in our saddle guide, minus the 3D-printed lattice foam and the $350 price tag. Reinforced outer edges are there for the moment every rider eventually has: saddle meets rock, or saddle meets ground when the bike gets laid down at the trailhead.
Then there’s the handle. Molded straight into the nylon base at the rear, it’s meant for hike-a-bike sections and awkward lifts over deadfall — a small thing, but the kind of small thing you notice is missing the first time you’re shouldering a bike up a rock step without one. Singletracks called it out as one of the more practical additions in the launch, and it’s hard to argue — it costs Peaty’s nothing in tooling to add a handle to a shape they’re already molding, and it solves a problem every enduro and trail rider has run into.
Peaty’s also had the saddle tested to ASTM Level 4 for MTB and eMTB use by the Zedler Institute, the same third-party lab that a lot of frame and component testing runs through. That’s a durability claim with an actual standard behind it, not just marketing language about “trail-proven” toughness.
The 4130 CrMo steel version is $99.99 / £69.99 / €79.99 and weighs 262g. The Ti-MX titanium alloy version is $129.99 / £89.99 / €109.99 at 240g — a $30 upcharge for 22 grams saved. That’s not a great weight-to-dollar ratio on paper, but it’s roughly the same math as most steel-to-titanium saddle rail upgrades on the market.
For reference, our own saddle buying guide put the WTB Volt’s steel rails at 262g and its titanium rails at 210g — a bigger weight drop for a similar price jump. If shaving grams off your saddle is the goal, the Volt’s titanium option beats the Monarch’s Ti-MX on pure numbers. But that comparison misses the actual pitch here. You’re not buying the Monarch’s titanium rails for weight. You’re buying either rail option because you can take it apart and fix it instead of replacing it, and that’s true whether you spend $99.99 or $129.99.
My take: buy the steel version. It’s $30 cheaper, it’s more forgiving if you over-torque a bolt during your first at-home service, and the whole point of this saddle is that you’re not supposed to need to upgrade it away from creaking in eighteen months. Save the $30, put it toward the grease you’ll need for the rebuild anyway.
None of the saddles in our current buying guide — the WTB Volt, the Specialized Power Pro Mirror, the SQLab 611 Ergowave — are built to come apart like this. They’re good saddles. None of them are pitched as a maintenance item the way the Monarch is. That’s a genuinely different category of claim than “better foam” or “better shape,” and it’s the reason the Monarch is worth a look even though 145mm is the only width on offer right now. If you’ve already measured your sit bones and 145mm happens to be your number — WTB’s own sizing data puts that close to the middle of most trail riders’ range — the Monarch is a legitimate alternative purchase, not just a curiosity.
It’s also worth putting next to Intend’s Elevator dropper post, which we covered a few days ago running a similar pitch: oil instead of grease, home-serviceable, built to be rebuilt rather than replaced. That’s turning into a real trend in cockpit parts this year — brands betting that riders who’ve been burned by throwaway components will pay a little more, or the same, for something designed to be opened up. The Elevator backs that claim with zero trail history yet. The Monarch’s core mechanism (a re-greaseable rail interface) is a much simpler piece of engineering to trust on day one than a sealed air-chamber damper — there’s less to go wrong, and less to verify over time.
Peaty’s is backing the Monarch with a 30-day comfort guarantee, which reads as confidence in the shape rather than just the mechanism. Saddle comfort is famously personal — what works for one rider’s sit bones does nothing for another’s — and a single 145mm width is a real constraint if that number isn’t close to yours. A return window takes some of the risk out of trying a shape you can’t sit on in a shop first. Read the actual terms before you buy, though; “comfort guarantee” language varies a lot by retailer on what counts as a valid return.
Riders replacing a saddle because it started creaking, not because it stopped fitting. This is the exact problem the Monarch is built to solve, and no other saddle on the market is making the same claim with instructions this specific.
Anyone who already measured 145mm as their width in our saddle sizing guide and wants a saddle that won’t need replacing the next time it starts making noise.
Riders who already carry 2mm and 3mm Allen keys in a trail or home tool kit and don’t mind five minutes of maintenance a season in exchange for not buying a new saddle every year or two.
Riders who don’t fit 145mm. There’s no narrower or wider option at launch. If your sit bones measure toward either extreme, this isn’t the saddle to force it with.
Weight-weenies chasing every gram. The Ti-MX’s 240g is fine, not remarkable — the WTB Volt’s titanium rails and the Specialized Power Pro Mirror both undercut it. Buy the Monarch for serviceability, not for a scale number.
Anyone who’s never had a saddle creak on them. If your current saddle is quiet and fits, there’s no reason to switch just because this one can be taken apart.
Most saddle “innovation” this year has been foam compounds and pressure-mapping data on saddles that cost as much as a set of tires. Peaty’s Monarch is a different kind of story — a $99.99 part that fixes a problem nearly every trail rider has run into, using two Allen keys and a process Peaty’s actually publishes instead of gesturing at “premium materials.” It’s not going to win a numbness argument against the Power Pro Mirror, and 145mm-only sizing will rule it out for plenty of riders. But for the specific, common failure mode of a saddle that creaks until you replace it, nothing else on our list is built to be fixed instead of thrown out. That’s worth $99.99 on its own.
